Serendipity Challenge is an annual entrepreneurship competition and technology venue open to all Swedish and Nordic start-up and growth companies. The competition’s finals take place during Almedalsveckan where 50 of Sweden’s and the Nordic´s most innovative, up-and-coming companies compete for the titles of “Start-up company of the year and Growth company of the year.
As a new feature this year, ten spots are open to Nordic companies. These companies will be assessed and compete according to the same criteria as the Swedish companies. Also new is the autumn event Serendipity Challenge Stockholm that brings together all 50 competing companies, partners, industry executives, and investors.
Serendipity Challenge winners get access to experts, which is worth SEK 200,000 – for the company’s next development phase.
Winners participate in the Swedish delegation to Silicon Valley – to meet investors and visit some of the largest, best-known companies in the world.
The competition is open to all entrepreneur-led companies regardless of their area of business/business sector. The company must:
- Be entrepreneur-driven
- Be based on a unique technology/concept/business idea
The jury assesses the companies and their business idea based on:
- Market potential
- Global applicability
- Team skills/competency
All 50 companies competing in the finals can exhibit their business at the tech venue in the heart of Visby, which for two days will become the Silicon Valley of Almedalen. In total the Almedalen event attracts approximately 40.000 visitors, including industry executives, politicians, entrepreneurs and journalists. In the tech venue, the visitors will be able to experience tomorrow’s technologies, products, and services as well as meet the entrepreneurs who build these new companies with the goal to change, improve, and develop their industries.
A full-day program focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and global expansion. Listen to entrepreneurs, Swedish industry executives, and politicians in panel discussions addressing key issues on how Sweden can further strengthen its position as a leading nation in innovation and export. During the afternoon, the Serendipity Challenge 2017 winners are announced.
During Almedalsveckan, nearly 100 entrepreneurs move into the entrepreneurs’ village. On a few occasions, the village will be open for guests and serves as a venue for entrepreneurs, business partners, industry executives, and politicians.
The competition aims to give exposure to entrepreneurship and hand company builders the opportunities to showcase their companies on the national arena. The competition also aims to highlight Sweden and the Nordic region as hotbeds for innovative, emerging enterprises that change, improve, and develop their respective industries on a global level as well as function as a connecting venue for entrepreneurs, executives, investors, politicians, and partners.
